Crème de la Soult is a cottage kitchen and artisanal brand specializing in handcrafted French-style sourdough breads, small-batch infused vinegars, and real vanilla products. Nestled in the foothills of Southern California, we marry timeless techniques with local ingredients to create food that is both deeply nourishing and unapologetically flavorful.

Our Story

Crème de la Soult began as a quiet pursuit of perfection—an obsession with the techniques of Apollonia Poilâne, a deep respect for nature’s rhythms, and a longing to create something honest in a world of shortcuts. What started in a small kitchen has blossomed into a mission: to bring soul back to the table.

Inspired by the French countryside and rooted in California soil, our offerings reflect a reverence for both place and process. From wild-fermented sourdough to sun-ripened fruit vinegars and pure vanilla paste, we craft with intention and let the ingredients shine.

At Crème de la Soult, excellence begins with what we put into every batch. We choose only the finest ingredients—from King Arthur flours and hand-cultured homemade butters and buttermilk, to Celtic sea salt that enhances the depth of our sourdough. Our vanilla products are made with gourmet Grade A Madagascar vanilla beans, carefully extracted using premium spirits like Ski Vodka, Bacardi Rum, and Rittenhouse Rye to draw out every layer of flavor. For our infused vinegars, we begin with a base of homemade apple cider—crafted slowly, the old-world way. Every choice we make is rooted in quality, care, and respect for the craft, because your food deserves nothing less.

Meet the maker

Crème de la Soult was born from one woman’s quiet obsession with the beauty of real food. Drawing inspiration from legendary French baker Apollonia Poilâne, our founder spent years mastering the art of sourdough, refining vinegar infusions, and developing pure, richly layered vanilla extracts. Her journey began not in a commercial kitchen, but in a humble cottage kitchen—driven by a passion for craftsmanship, a love of flavor, and a deep belief in food as nourishment for both body and spirit. Every product is made by hand, in small batches, with intention and soul.

Our process 

Good things take time, and at Crème de la Soult, we honor that truth. Our sourdough begins with natural fermentation—no shortcuts, just wild cultures and time-tested technique. Vinegars are steeped slowly using housemade apple cider, allowing fruits, herbs, and botanicals to infuse naturally and deeply. Vanilla beans are split and soaked for months in carefully selected spirits, allowing the full spectrum of flavor to develop. From start to finish, every step is deliberate, guided by patience, precision, and a reverence for tradition.
